More Changes

Not done yet

I don't think I realized how important feedback is until this week. Especially feedback from teachers or those who know what they're doing. I spent the last two class periods talking to Stoklosa about the magazine, which lead to some major changes.

Let's start on the cover.
The most evident change I made was the sizing of the title. Adjusting the size so it lays on two lines made it feel much more "big and bold." This definitely gives it more of a magazine feel. I also changed the color of the subtext to a grey, along with the date and issue number. This was also moved to one line and I deleted the shadow box around it to make it cleaner. These changes really make the cover stand out and feels much more like a true magazine. Through all of the changes this cover has undergone in the last few weeks, one part remained the same: the picture. I really love this picture and it has worked so well for the cover photo.

Next is the table of contents, and watch out because it has a whole new look.
Yes, I know, very different. But it looks SO much better now. I kept the main text the same with the main stories, but I did alter the page numbers to make the magazine lengthier. When meeting with Stoklosa, we went through a few magazines to see the differences and it helped me do more research on what I needed to base my product on. For "City of Weston" magazines, or others similar, there is usually around 70 pages per issue, so I had to increase the length. Each table of contents included a section with other stories in the magazine, so I added that as well. I included recurring segments and stories you would typically find in a city magazine. The one adjustment I will probably make is spreading out the page numbers slightly. I also added an image on the right side of the page after trying different versions out. I first made the picture the background of the page and raising the transparency, but the text could not be seen and this was a much cleaner look. It also works because the three players shown in the picture are those that are featured in the story I wrote in the magazine. I went back and forth on whether I should include the line beneath "also in this issue" like I did below the page numbers above it. I ultimately landed on adding it because it creates a sense of continuity throughout the page, and the rest of the magazine since I used it on the next two pages within the story.

Now for the first page of the story. Again, it looks extremely different from my last post but the changes were necessary. The picture I previously had for the title felt too fragile for a football story so I am using one closer to the action. This picture was also taken during a spring football tournament, which was talked about in the story, so it all ties in together. I kept the story and pullout quote the same aside from adjusting the spacing and leaving more space on the sides of the pages. Also, I changed the color of each page to white, which made it cleaner than the grey. The title font remained the same but I used the same color as the numbering in the contents page. I also changed the outline color to grey that matches the cover page subtext color. I did nit have a byline previously, so that was added and I used the same font as the story. Aside from alllll of that, everything else on this page remained the same!

And finally, the second page of the story and last page of the project. Just like the previous page, I resized the text to allow for more space on the sides. The only other change made was the picture on the top left corner because I had used the previous one for the table of contents. I still have the bottom right picture as the same but I may end up changing it to something more interesting. I also kept the lines here to maintain continuity.

Okay, that's it for now! Next week I will be creating the CCR and that will be it. Check back for CCR updates!!
