                                  What is Action?

Before walking into a movie theater that is showing an Action movie, you can already expect to be involved and entertained by the film. Action is one of, if not the most, exciting types of movies to watch. This is because they have so many aspects that keeps the viewer involved and on the edge of their seat.

Action films were first brought up in the 1920s and have evolved since then. Every year there are new movies that are categorized into the Action genre that bring in more money than the last. Action movies draw in a vast range of ages, leading to their very high income in the box office. The target audience for these films is typically 15 to 40 years of age, but most watched by teenagers. Young adults enjoy the thrill that Action brings and are especially into the adventure presented on screen.

With Action movies comes many franchises that have brought the genre immense success. For example, the Marvel, Fast & Furious, and James Bond series' have brought in the majority of sales within the genre. Although these films bring in more viewers with each new movie, they all have some things in common. Action films are known to have a hero, someone everyone likes and can relate to, and the villain, the character that always seems to mess up the plot in some way. There are many other ways these, and the majority of other Action films, are similar, but this remains the same.

Content

The directors try to reel the audience in with the hero and their up-and-coming backstory, then introduces the antagonist as someone with an issue they need to sort out. In between this are fight scenes, car chases, or epic stunts that keep the viewers interested. These elements are what makes up an Action film. Even though Action movies seem to usually follow this algorithm, people still show up to the theater and watch what is put in front of them. Not only that, but they enjoy it too.

Techniques

Some techniques directors use when composing an Action film are special effects and certain types of shot compositions. Special effects are used in various different ways within an Action movie. For example, in the Star Wars series, they are added to lightsabers to enhance their appearance to the audience. This is a well-identified piece of the films and is a great example of what makes special effects so important. Directors like to use many long shots throughout Action movies. Establishing long shots show the setting while normal long shots can capture the whole experience of a scene. Since Action movies have a large amount of adventure built in, there is a lot to see at one time. Long shots give the audience the ability to watch it all happen at once.

Marketing

Action films are one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Going into producing this type of movie, a lot of money is put in. There are high expectations that have to be met in order to call the movie successful. There are specific marketing techniques used in order to draw in a large enough crowd. These include billboards, commercials, and franchising. Directors try to bring in the faces that everyone within the target audience can identify to win over the viewers. The movies are marketed through commercials because the people that watch Action films are typically the younger generation, who happen to watch the most television and will see those commercials. Franchising might be the most important part when marketing Action films. Going back to the different series', viewers are more invested in movies that have others built into the series. This is because they continuously want more. Giving the audience additional movies within the same series keeps them coming back and bringing in more money.
